This place is based out in the sticks in rural Bedfordshire and is a former ministry of defence tunnel that has been converted for human body flight. But, believe me, it's well worth a visit!! I've flown in this baby for oooo .. a couple of hours now .. and it rocks. It's a superb, massive tunnel with a magical feel about it. I'm a bit lardy at the moment and this thing could have pinned me to the ceiling .. any one else flown it yet .. what did you think..?

As you know I did a brief stint here. Only a couple of training flights.

What a rush. There is a very strange atmosphere around this place .. (makes the first time flyer feel quite intimidated), but once you're inside it's all good.

Very modern look and friendly people. Thoroughly enjoyed my first Tunnel Flying experience, the trainers were first class and made me feel very safe.. I can't wait to go again!!

I have done approx 7hrs at bedford now.  It is the BEST.  I am comparing to Aerokart and SkyVenture - Orlando.  I have done approx 4 hrs in each of those so I think that my opinion is valid.

Bedfords air feels the same as freefall on a summers day.  The tunnel is climate controlled at 22C.  The air is solid with no 'holes', 'wafts' or 'drop-outs'.  The air is the same, even next to the wall.  The doors even have solid air and you don't experience the 'door pulling' effect (the one where you end up outside the tunnel looking in wondering what happened)

The air feels the same no matter what height you fly.  Aerokart and Orlando the air gets slower the higher you go.  So if the air is too fast you have tell the controller to turn it down a bit.

The best bit is the size.  16ft as apposed to 12ft gives an increased cross section area of 77 per cent.  We can now do ALL the 4way dive-pool and using the same tecniques as in skydiving.  If a 4way team is serious about training then they should spend some serious time in Bedford.  (NB I am not Bodyflight staff, I am simply a tunnel addict)

If I had to give this tunnel a rating it would be 9.5 / 10.

Bedford currently download all digital camera footage from 2 angles onto their server in .avi format.  Once the software is sorted they plan to convert and burn to DVD so that you can switch between cameras whilst watching the footage.  Once this is done they get 10 / 10.
