Hello to all and to all a hello! I am very new to this sport, but find it very interesting. I am now in a position where I get to help plan a new use for an old Titan 1 Missile base. It has 3 underground silos each about 115' underground and walls about 11' thick around the collar. I am considering putting in a Tunnel into one of the silos where a nuclear warhead use to sit. Just today, I learned about the L1 technology and like it a lot. I understand the popularity with it being used outside, but what about using this technology in a silo that is about 40' in diameter? Can it be adapted?

I'm going to Russia for 2 months to jump in Kolomna in July and August 2007 and I would like to complement my jumping with some tunnel time.

My plan is to do 400 jumps and 10 hours of tunnel.
Have any of you flown the Skyventure tunnel in Moscow?

Any advice comments?

Dislocated shoulder

I have about 2 hrs tunnel time and have reasonable control in basic bellyflying position (the 6 degrees of movement).

Unfortunately on New Year's Eve someone fell on me in tunnel and dislocated my shoulder

Realize that people can't give specifics on my case, however is anyone aware of others who suffered the same injury, specifically were they able to get back in the tunnel after rehabilitation and if yes, how long did it take?

Am trying to understand what my options are. Interested in any comments - good or bad.

Hi to all out there,

Well were do I start............. I have just done the learn to fly course at the bedford tunnel & man is that a shed load of fun. I am totally hooked! Although I only have 40 minutes flying time so far I love it & living close to the tunnel is going to hurt my bank account! but hey you cant take it with you in the end!!

Firstly I would just like to say thanks to Ross & David the two instructors who put me through my paces & I will be back very soon.

Oh & if any one out there can give me some tips or hints on side slides I would be very greatful.

I did a tandem jump 3 years ago, and I am still interested in doing more... I look forward to learning more of indoor tunneling, and meeting new people, and becoming involved with like minded persons for that adrenalin rush!

Hi, just got back from Airkix having taken my sister for her first flight (40th birthday treat!) and my 5yr old son for his second flight- a great success as he was flying solo at the top of the window having a great time!! Me, my fourth time in and things are progressing well - but I'm wondering if there is anyone out there that thinks you benefit from seeing different instructors every visit, or whether it would be better if there was a way to book the same instructor?

Whilst I'm not a golfer, I know that most folks would get confused if they booked a string of lessons and saw a different pro on each visit.......

In summary, thanks to Freddy for today, we'll all be back soon - just got to work out how to sell my soul, or remortgage - this is going to get expensive as the 5yr old is looking good and wants to go every day!!

Have you been flying in VWT's and when did you start counting the # of years you have been in the sport?

I flew Las Vegas back in April of 2003 when I first started skydiving (10 minutes). However, I didn't accumulate time or fly consistantly untill October 2004 so I count my years of tunnel flying since then. Should I really start from my first flight even though there was a huge lag? I know it's not really important but I'm just bored and we needed a new post in here anyway

Ever since I saw the movie Dropzone, where the skydivers are training on the ground, I have wanted to have a go at this, but I've only just come across it, as something I could actually do!

I would love to buy the experience for myself and my brother but I have read a couple of times about only being able to do it if you have'nt had problems with a dislocating shoulder. My brother did used to have a re-occuring dislocating shoulder. He had an operation to stregthen it about 12 years ago. Is this really still a problem? he has done a tandem skydive with an instructor last year.

Also I live i the uk. Can anyone recommend which of the 2 tunnels/companies are better for a complete beginner.

Newby looking for advice on Latvia wind Tunnel

Hi,

I'm new to the wind tunnel and have actually never flew or even seen once in my life! Heard about it when started doing skydiving. My plan is to do wind tunnel in conjunction with jumping so can improve my flying skills.

Has anybody been in the aerodium_latvia?

Its my first time considering wind tunnel and this one is the best for me regarding location and prices.

I currently have 300 Jumps most of them are Freefly. I would like opinions on this particular wind tunnel as I'm thinking of going there very soon to do about 3 hours flying time.

Since its a bit of an investment and I want to do some significant time in it. Is this tunnel a good one to improve my Freefly skills specially Head up/Sit and Head down positions?

My name is Oleg, I’m representing group of Russian bodyflyers.
Last year we decide to make wind tunnel’s machine for ourselves and finally we did it!
Fortunately, after all efforts and tries, we made good final model and already have several client who want to buy it. We know that model must be tested out before we put the product on sale and now we have finished all tests and finally start to use it for training!
I’m looking for some advices from experienced users and wind tunnel owners about wind tunnel’s business organization and so on.
Here is some info about our machine:
- 1500 Hp Diesel Engine
- 250 km/h Airspeed
- 10 ft. Diameter (Flight Area for one student or 2 experienced)
- Height:
a) Ready for transportation - 4 m
b) Ready to use - 9m
- Guarding:
Steel cable net structure on the bottom and kapron net on the top and sides.
- Setup time on this machine for crew of 2-3 persons is about 4 hours

Hi there,

Another disciple come to the table of Bodyflying... I started a few months ago, probably the same as most non-sky divers with the purchase of an "experience voucher" by a loved one. Gotta be said, it was the best present I ever had!! 4 minutes at Airkix.

Since that featfull day I knew I'd be back for more. If only I'd know... Have had another 20 minutes with a trainer and back again tomorrow morning for some more practise. Also organised a Corporate day out for the guys in my company, and another in July for some of my customers, so am doing all I can to spread the word about this infectious sport.
I'm just negotiating an 8 hour block so I can fly every week

Anyway just wanted to tip my hat and say hello. Don't know where this sport will take me but I'm sure my feet WON'T touch the ground and the smile remains

Hi Everyone! It's that time again... I should think a quarterly recap would be good for our small crowd, no?

The last thread was as of December 1st, so how much have you flown between December 1st and April 1st?

I haven't flown alot for sure, been so busy but I have been travelling! In fact, I didnt' fly at all during December/January/February since I was busy working hard for all my upcoming events this year!

SO...I've added about 35 minutes since last count, and I've flown at AAC in North Carolina as well as Flyaway in Las Vegas!

I also went out and VISITED the future SkyVenture Universal City Walk site and took pictures of the start of construction, so in a way I visited 3 tunnels

What have you all been up to?

Tunnel Time Totals

Since we now have a good place for it, let's start here. For those of you who don't know we used to do this on dz.com to keep up with eachother. Once a month, someone who thought of it first would start a thread called Tunnel Time Totals as of DATE, and each month we would put in there what we flew that month and how it went... kind of a quick update. Since the site is new I thought we'd get caught up and then we'll be ready for a new one on Jan 1st for everyone's December totals...

So... as of December 1st 2005 I have flown about 61 hours and 15 minutes!
No coaching or instruction time in there, just me, the air and some friends usually!

That's about 3,700 jumps worth!

Hi, Just came across this website....I love tunnels but unfortunately my bank account doesn't feel the same! Its fab having 2 tunnels within an hour of where I live in the UK now. Have spent most of the time at Bedford which has been awesome, whereas before we used to have to fly (usually to USA) to go tunnel flying!

Goals...for now!

1. Bedford Bodyflight are hosting the world challenge in April and I am looking to put a team together for the 4 way, there are 2 of us (experienced tunnel flyers for FS anyway) and need 2 more to make it happen! So if anyone is interested in joining us, please email me at sales@dzsports.com

2. Learn to do other stuff in there...backflying...I have learnt to move forward, backward and turn, but not quite mastered staying still yet...hopefully won't take too long to learn...like riding a bike?!!! ;-)

My first tunnel was Powerflyte a portable tunnel that is now outta commission. It was 1997, and we were in Lake Charles, Louisiana, USA. It was awesome.

Within a year I also added Flyaway PF and SkyVenture, I was a junkie by then for sure!

Sorry, I forgot to tell you my tunnel count!!

I've flown in 8 tunnels so far!

Where can we all gather to chit chat about tunnel without choosing a discipline or tunnel first...this is what I'm interested in. I'd like to talk about the first tunnel flights, the design improvements over the years, the elders in the sport, the new advances made, and on and on. There are over 20 years worth of amazing events that have happened, and many happen every day.. if I have to go check each tunnel thread, I'll surely miss something great! I made my first skydive in April of 2003 but did not begin my student progression until June when college was out. 1999- Best In Show. Westerville Ohio Art Show. I created a 3D,mixed media piece, depicting a tattoo artist and the tattooed. I plastered half of my 5'2" friend's body as if she were sitting on a stool with plaster arms attached to her back giving her the tattoo. The tatttoo gun was plaster with a paper clip for a needle and black glazed clay as the tattoo. I'll scan and add pics later.

Ohio University Skydiving Club
My last few years at school, I founded the Ohio University Skydiving Club. Each weekend I would take tandem students to SGC and give them their first and sometimes 2nd or 3rd taste of the air. Alana Byrnes continued the club until this year when she graduated. Hopefully the torch has been passed!

Started Skydiving via AFF in Sept 98. Bronze Juniors overall GrandPrix with 'Elemental' in 2002. Bronze Intermediate overall GrandPrix with 'Evolution' in 2005. Spa European Bronze in 2005.

Best score in competition is 23 with an all random round of BOH (round 2 of Spa Belgium Eurompean comp)

Largest foramtion was a 2 point 52way organised by Milko at Langar.

When i'm not competing I coach FS at Hibaldstow both WARP and 1on1. I also coach at Bedford Tunnel with my Best mate Simon Cathrine. I think that 2on2 4way coaching can be the most efficient way for teams to progress.

I recently tried out for the Bodyflight team with John and Steve but was unsuccesful. The line up for the World class 4-way FS team is Steve Hamilton, John McIver, Tarn Hollis and Phil Hartree. My best wishes go to them all.

I am glad that there is finally a forum that bodyflyers can talk on. It will make it much easier to combine efforts and sort out slot rotation etc.

Thankyou Nigel and Alison for introducing me to this website. I have been known to do the odd hour or two with them at both Aerokart and Bedford. It is weird doing the French style as all the formation are mirrored as the French tend to use Porters which has a right hand door. (majority of British jump planes are left hand doors)

10/01/05 - Perris SkyVenture - Head Up & backflying & belly flying, freeflying wasn't really allowed (no back flips, barrel rolls or 'trying anything new' so you have to stick to what you already know.. wierd but ok since I can already do enough to last 15 minutes!! It was fun, and fast & smooth as expected.. I didn't notice the heat of the day at all! Nice but only conservative flying is encouraged here. Responsive controls made airspeed adjustments very quick! Thumbs up!- 13 minutes

10/03/05 - Flyaway PF - sit & back flying, 3 way with Rox & John, last flight of the day they waited for us to close!! Thanks Rob & Robbie!! Awesome fun.. the slowest air yet, but still a total blast! So relaxed & friendly!! Thumbs up! - 10 minutes

Just a quick hello, I found a link to this site from the UKfreefly site and thought I would take a look. I have only been flying in the tunnel for a few months and have a few hours under my belt now. Been to both Bedford and Perris tunnels and I loved both of them. Can't wait for the Bedford new year party

Firstly, let me get on the wrong foot with you guys - I'm 1 hour from both UK tunnels. Yeah. Thats what I'm talking about hehe.

Anyway - where was I? Ah yes - introducing myself

I'm Ross, and I'm 28. Started skydiving this year (Jan 2005). Went to DeLand for AFF and a holiday in Orlando all-in-one (in July). The tunnel was whistling my name for several days, and 3.5 hours later (over a week) I was addicted (actually I Was addicted after about 10 minutes, once I stopped bouncing off the walls )

Got just over 2 hours in the Bedford tunnel now too, bringing my total to about 5.5 hours. Not to shabby for a Brit where we didn't have tunnels until a few months ago! I jump too (at Hinton) and have 70 or so jumps now, but will equally throw myself in the tunnel as much as possible!

Most of my tunnel time has been flat work (4.5 hours have been flat, with about an hour of 'ehm' "freefly" - lol. pinned-to-the-net-fly would be more appropiate as Rusty tries his damnest to bend my body into the right positions for a sit - my sit is coming on OK, but I'm in no real hurry to be a tree-hugger - the RW stuff is such good fun!

I'm looking to move my 'skills' to the next level, and am looking towards getting in a 4-way team or at least start something 'regular' with regular flyers/jumpers to establish a routine and practice!

Hey everyone! Just wandered across this place, and figured I ought to say Hi! I tend to lurk over on dz.com, but might manage a few posts here As you may have guessed from my handle, I got my start as a skydiver, but I am also totally enthralled with tunnels. I've got 300+ jumps, and about an hour total tunnel time so far. So, very much a "new kid on the block", but making some real progress in my skills.

I see tunnels & bodyflight both as a tool for being a better skydiver, as well as being a sport all on its own. I am always looking forward to whatever air time I am able to get, be it indoors or outdoors. Hailing from New England, I am totally psyched for SV New Hampshire to get cranked up, so that I don't have to head to Florida or Arizona or wherever to deal with the cold-weather blues...

Looking forward to sharing and learning with you all on these forums!

Well, so, first let me say that Dawn Suiter made me come and register for this. She even said I had to make a post or two. So here we go..

My name is Shane Tully, and I have been an avid bodyflyer for almost 16 years. I LOVE WIND TUNELS/BODYFLIGHT!!! I learned to fly in NJ in 1990, and have flown 10 different tunnels around the US. Since I started flying I have been lucky enough to have helped build/rebuild a few of these facilities, as well as spending years, and years worth of time instructing in them. Recently I started a video production company dedicated to the VWT industry called WindWorX Productuions. One of our contracts is with the Zero gravity Corporation which I have been working with for the past year or so going up on their 727, and shooting video/stills in zero gravity, like what they do to train the astronauts. It is truly a different way of flying.

Anyway I wanted to say hello and tell everyone a little about me. I look forward to having some cool conversations with all of you about the sport WE all love.

Hello, been hanging around dz.com for a while now, found this site and though I would join up.

I haven't done much tunnel flying, I did 20 minutes before I did AFF in bedford, which mainly involved a lot of flapping around and a bit of flying for the last 5 minutes.

Was HUGELY helpful for AFF and all of my instructors commented that the tunnel time had really helped.

Gonna try and get back down to bedford for half an hour over xmas its just damn expensive

Well me neither! My name is Shaun and I'm from Lincolnshire. Recently got my skydiving A Licence, but as it was more the thought of weightlessness which attracted me to the sport (rather than "Dude! I jump from planes man!) I thought I might migrate onto tunnel flying and see what thats like. Could be good for a laugh seeing me bounce off the walls!
