‘Best Costume’ Contest
Entry Fee: $20
Prize Information: Free tunnel time from AAC, Bodyflight.net T-shirt and more!
Each contestant must fly for 1 minute in their costume. The Winner will be chosen based on costume creativity and quality, NOT flying skills.

Contest Participation Rules:
You and your costume must be able to fly unassisted (without a coach) to participate. Please use common sense, your costume will need to hold up to high-speed air without flying apart.
This is a family friendly environment, please use discretion when selecting your costume. Skydiver costumes (jumpsuit & rig) DO NOT qualify for the contest. There is no roof on the tunnel at Appalachian Amusement Center; precautions will have to be taken to avoid having objects fly out of the tunnel and onto the nearby highway.
Props must be securely attached to the flyer. Before flying, your costume will have to be approved for safety by management. NO Sharp Objects such as Swords & Knives (toy versions MIGHT be allowable), also NO Fire, Sparks or Flames!

4th of July Tunnel Boogie

For the last 2 years AAC has held an informal tunnel boogie on the 4th of July. One of our very own tunnelrats from Alabama brings fireworks up from his private workshop where he makes rockets and the like... yes we even have a rocket scientist in the group

Anyway, we start around noon usually with some daytime flying and everybody flies together in a big group, there is no block time or bookings, basically we all just throw in on the time and fly it together. The owner will ask several people to fly later on in the evening for the video shoot during the fireworks.. we've NEVER had enough people yet, only 3 of us so far have been there and skilled enough to fly at night in the dark AND up high enough (let me tell you this is very disorienting in the dark AND scary for me!!) We usually hang out and fly some more and wrap it up around 10 or 11..

Hope to see more of you next year! It's an RSVP event just like the Halloween Boogie, because well, there is only so much time in the day! It also helps the flow if you can hold your own and fly with others in a group... but if you need some solo time as a student, we'll make that happen too of course!

In May '06 seven Flyaway Las Vegas tunnel rats paid a visit to AAC and had an incredible experience. This is the most fun and challenging collumn of air that I have ever flown, being in the wind was like a drug. Very free feeling with no walls or roof. That being said though, one of the challenging parts about the collumn was the lack of reference points, we had a to re-learn a little of our depth perception. The net is great though, I spun out of control about 10 feet up and fell hard but felt fine on that net.

I can't wait to go back, anyone want to join me in October for the halloween boogie?

What's the weather like at AAC in Feb??

I've looked at their web site over and over again .. and this place looks incredible. I meant to go the last time I went out to the states but with one thing or another I couldn't make it. Does anyone know what sort of speeds this thing can get to? It looks to be able to support a number of different flyers in the air-stream at the same time. Next time I'm in the good ole US of A .. I'm going here.
