What a rockin' time. This is a FUN tunnel to fly at. It is challenging because there are no walls to use as a crutch, but that challenge just adds to the fun. And, it is actually fun to fly through the air stream and come out the other side. The air is fast and clean and the tunnelrat crowd was very friendly to my husband and I, despite the fact that we are just beginners at non-SV tunnels. John Suiter is a totally laid back, patient coach. Do yourself a favor, book the time and make the trip to fly at AAC!

Edited to Add pictures. There were so many good ones that I had a hard time narrowing it down. I am the dork in the white shirt and silver full face helmet. Pardon my belly in the one picture. And, Dawn, sorry about the one picture (you will know it when you see it). I could't resist. The girl and man are Lexi and John Suiter. Lexi is really good!!!

RE: 4th of July Tunnel Boogie

I am pretty sure that Jake and I will be there too. I won't know until a little closer to event time. But, it sounds like a blast!

RE: 4th of July Tunnel Boogie

Count me in for 2006! I may not be skilled enough to fly with the fireworks but I'll do my best during the day to see what I can do. I'll probably try to get down there early w. Carrie or Ari to practice (if this bloody busy schedule of mine allows).

If nothing else I can take kick *** pics of everyone flying at night and having a blast w. the beautiful fireworks. I haven't taken many night time pics so as I look at it, there will be a first for me either way.

Would it be possible to get a little night flight in (if I can't do the fireworks) just to see what its like? Just a few min to feel it out, not flying up high if I don't have the skill but just trying it out for a new experience.

RE: 4th of July Tunnel Boogie

hey dawn u know i'm going to try to come up

RE: 4th of July Tunnel Boogie

Sounds like great fun!!

That's one helluva funkylicious flying suit in those pics

4th of July Tunnel Boogie

For the last 2 years AAC has held an informal tunnel boogie on the 4th of July. One of our very own tunnelrats from Alabama brings fireworks up from his private workshop where he makes rockets and the like... yes we even have a rocket scientist in the group

Anyway, we start around noon usually with some daytime flying and everybody flies together in a big group, there is no block time or bookings, basically we all just throw in on the time and fly it together. The owner will ask several people to fly later on in the evening for the video shoot during the fireworks.. we've NEVER had enough people yet, only 3 of us so far have been there and skilled enough to fly at night in the dark AND up high enough (let me tell you this is very disorienting in the dark AND scary for me!!) We usually hang out and fly some more and wrap it up around 10 or 11..

Hope to see more of you next year! It's an RSVP event just like the Halloween Boogie, because well, there is only so much time in the day! It also helps the flow if you can hold your own and fly with others in a group... but if you need some solo time as a student, we'll make that happen too of course!

I'm attaching pics, I hope they are all three different, I'm not so great at naming files
