Who was first?  Let's collect all the tunnel FIRSTS here in this thread for easy reference!

I'll start:

First test flight at
Flyaway Pigeon Forge - John Suiter
Powerflyte (a portable vwt) - John Suiter
SkyVenture Orlando - John Suiter
Appalachian Amusement Center - Chris Landon

The first 13way tunnel flight - AAC conducted entirely by tunnelrats

The first civilian in a VWT happened to be a teen girl! See the article at: bodyflight.net

The first Kayak flights - Flyaway PF (late 80s I think) with John Suiter

The first IN MOTION tunnel flight - John Suiter flew Lifted Entertainment's tunnel while it was being driven down the taxiway at the World Freefall Convention!  (video on my site)

First ever tunnel competition: 1990 Airofly World Championship in Tampa FL... the winners? John Suiter, Phil Henderson & Chris Landon

First tunnel flight ever? 1964 at Wright Patterson Air Force Base! Mr. Jack Tiffany

ok...  who's next... who knows some tunnel firsts...  I'd really love to know who were the first people to fly at each VWT!!!!  Oh... and NO using the history of flight section of my website to cheat!

I'll go, but I am off to a slow start, I am sore, and tired from flying last night!

Anyway,

First public VWT instructors/coaches St. Germain Family (Quebec)

First one to the top net in Flyaway PF= Suiter

First one to the top nets at SVO= Suiter

First flight at Flyaway Japan= Gary Speer

First person to fly in a 6ft VWT= Suiter at Frank Arenas' DZ in the mid 1990's

First flight at Bedofd= I would have to say Paul Mayer

First flights at Airkix= Alan Metni, and Simon Ward ( I read this, so don't blame me if I am wrong)

First Flight Skyventure Perris= Melanie Conatser, and Alan Metni

First VWT in a major motion picture= 1993 Drop Zone Mark Leslie owned an airofly tunnel built by Clive Ure.

First Skyventure Competition = Bodyflight Challange Feb 2003

First, and only person on fire while flying in a VWT (I hope)= Andy Schlibi (tunnel rat) Zurich switzerland (Please do not try this at your home tunnel without supervision, and video cameras)

I will add more as I think of them, these are off the top of my head though. Nice job Dawn, I love this thread, let's ee how far we can go. I want to know the names of the firsts at Vegas. Oh, Actually the newly recondition 1995 Vegas, the first flights were Gary Speer, and Tammy Clark. But I want to know names for the 1980's opening of Vegas. I will work on it.

Lexi Suiter was our first TPM induction at an open air facility.

Carrie Braun was our first TPM induction at an enclosed facility.

Would the Tunnel Pink Mafia & TFTC be a first (for women tunnel flyers)? I'm not up on the history of tunnel organizations other than what Dawn's got on Bodyflight.net for the Tunnel Rats.

Yes Paige,

I am sure that both TFTC, and TPM would've been firsts for women in Tunnel history. Without a doubt very cool!

I flew with a guy for a few days in Vegas. His name was Rod Driver, he wore a wingsuit a bunch, and actually flew it a little. After a few days I let him try it with a Skysurf board, and the wingstuit. His master plan I beleive was to land the wingsuit on a snowboard going down a mountain. He flew the wingsuit, but once he put the skyboard on he had a few issues I would say. We could never give him enough airspeed to fly because he just kept tracking across the net, it was a lot of fun to watch. We did that in late 2002 or early 2003, I can't remember exactly.

That's super impressive to attempt, wingsuit and board. Great story Shane, you and Dawn have amazing stories regarding the history of the sport.

Thank you both for sharing!
