Hi guys,

I have only spent about 20minutes in a wind tunnel, and i'm still getting to grips with basic flying.. Seeing as though this forum's here I thought I might aswell see if I can get some tips from some of you pro's ..

I have a video of my last flight where I had picked up the technique of flying a bit better, but there's still some room for improvement ..

Maintaining the arched position is difficult, and sometimes when I think I am arched I am actually not, and my arse is in the air .. Also my legs tend to wave around a lot in the air stream, i'm not adjusted to the sensation of wind passing through me very fast!!

Is there any tips or helping pointers you guys can recommend?? I do stretches before I go in the tunnel to warm up a bit .. I will be going again in a few weeks, I hope to be able to progress a bit more

A few things that may help (but I'm no pro so I hope I'm not your only response )

--Amount of time in the air makes a huge difference; stick with it and listen to the instructors/coaches that have seen you fly you'll get there before you know it

--Be sure to share your video with coaches and instructors (anyone who will watch it and give you knowledgable feedback). Actively seek out tips and tricks, ask everyone you know and respect. Go out of your way to tell instructors and coaches that you are willing to learn and wish to improve your flying. I'm sure they will be happy to assist.

--Also a relaxed body makes air passing over much 'cleaner' and will help stop popato chipping (and maybe those legs ).

--BREATHE, HAVE FUN, and RELAX, the flying and body position will be much easier to acheive.

Just take it slow and go one step at a time. Learn to fly your body, not just fly a position well enough to move on to your next 'challenge'. Be a fantastic flyer on any axis and I'm sure you'll learn so much (& then realize how much you still have to learn ). I feel like I'm just touching the tip of the ice berg and I have a bit of time.

Stick with it and let us know how it goes!

I don't have all that much time in the tunnel, but I found that relaxing was the best thing that I could do, particularly when things started to go wrong.  Relaxing seems to naturally help your body get into a better flight position.

Thanks for your comments. I guess it's all down to getting some time in the air and letting your body adjust to it. It will come with practice!!

When I have some video i'm not completely embarrased with i'll post a it up so you can see my progress. Airkix do flight DVD's which I could rip and upload here.

There is always room for improvement..

you didn't mention actually having a problem flying without an arch... is it causing problems for you? Floppy legs come & go, mine are always everywhere, although I prefer to think of it as steering.

You mentioned "fast" and I'm wondering if you could use LESS speed.. alot of times, learning to work for speed can help.  If you learn the extremes, it can make it easier to accomodate, to NOTICE what your doing better.  Seeing yourself while you fly is also helpful, but I'm not sure that being so concerned about a particular body position is a good thing.

Fly, have fun, smilie.  If your dangerous, that's another thing but it doesn't sound like you are.  Not everyone has a picture perfect body position and everyone can fly!  It doesn't matter unless your going to be judged at some point..  are you working toward being competitive? Then you should get a coach to work with... if your just having fun, like me, then fly, be merry and don't worry if you don't "look" as you think should!!!

Smile - its the key to everything! It'll make you relax, and make you comfortable, and and and... Trust me - smile and breath - it sounds so simple, but sometimes when you just try and enjoy yourself without putting pressure on yourself, you find it just 'happens' by itself.

the other secret is far more obvious - time The more you do it, the easier it'll become. And as has been said, if you position is 'good' it doesn't actually have to be 'pretty'  - either can work
